Michael Jackson is a dance icon and getting the chance to learn the moves he learned was amazing, he did not just dance he put his own spin on his moves.
My experience learning the dance to Thriller without the music was unique and different. I am already a dancer and have been for years, I have been in several dance companies and teams so I am use to learning different ways of choreography. I personally learn the dance faster and better when I learn a small piece of choreography then I review it with the music. As I am reviewing small pieces with the music I am also learning the choreography step by step but also knowing when certain dances moves match with the music. That is also why I believed when we were finally being tested on the dance students and I got mixed up because we did not know when certain steps matched the beat. Students were either going to fast or to slow due to not knowing the beat or having musicality. That is why I feel that learning the counts for choreography are important but also knowing when certain moves match the music since dancers have a natural musicality.
Since I have been dancing since I was 3 years old and professionally dancing when I was 10 years old I already knew how hard professional dancers train. I admire dance so much but it was never something I wanted to do as a living so I began to slowly stop dancing to focus on school. Just last year I began to dance competitively again and even then it was hard because I would have to learn 1 to 3 even 4 dances in less than a month. But professional dancers have to always put dance first if they even slip one bit it can cost them their whole career. They would have to make decisions based of dance and when it came to choreography they would have to make sure everything is perfect. My old dance teacher would have 8 hour practices that started at 10 at night and she would be exhausted but dance is what she loves so she didn't care. Professional dancers have it hard they are constantly on their toes and being judged that it also why I could never handle going professionally. I don't know half the struggle they go through but I sure do appraise their hard work and dedication for dance.
I have been use to dancing in front of an audience and dancing in general so I know that when it comes to performing I have to give it my 110%. So I would try to learn the dance moves on my own and when the dance moves matched the music, it is actually easy for me to memorize the moves. While dancing to Thriller I had to make sure I was moving like a zombie but also having sharp movements and facial expresions. My favorite dances moves were 'Roar, walk walk roar-turn roar-turn roar-turn walk walk roar-turn roar-turn'. I enjoyed doing the dance moves because we were able to walk like zombies but also look in unison plus it was also a move that I did for my own thriller dance with my old team.
